The Impact Storytelling Collective opens 9 November. Founding members join free.
Your programme works. Now make the story work too.
Storytelling consultancy for CSR, social impact and community investment teams, and the foundations and funders behind them. I help you find the story in your programme, capture it with consent, and tell it in a way your board, your partners and the public believe.

The problem
Most impact stories are written about the company, not the change.
Hours volunteered, money donated, people reached. It all goes in the report, and none of it tells the board, your partners or the public what is actually different now. When the story is missing, the next budget conversation is harder than it should be.
01
The numbers don’t land
Every figure is true, and not one of them shows what changed for the person on the other side.
02
The stories go uncaptured
The best moments happen in mentoring sessions and on site visits. Nobody has time to write them down, so by report season they’re gone.
03
The partner disappears
Your charity partner did the work, but the story ends up being about your brand. Partners notice, and trust drops.

He has really inspired excitement and confidence amongst my colleagues to tell their stories in a way that meets their own goals and the goals of Camden Giving.

A better way
Find the story first. Then build everything around it.
Good impact storytelling starts with one question: what is different now, and for whom? Everything else, the report, the film, the post, the board update, follows from the answer.
Plan the story before the activity
Agree what change you’re looking for, and where you’d see it, before the programme starts.
Let the people closest to it tell it
Participants, partners and staff, with consent agreed up front, not chased afterwards.
Put your partner at the centre
Your company made it possible. Your partner and the people they serve are the story.
Build it to last
A way of telling your story that your team can keep using after I’ve gone.

How I can help
How I can help
For CSR, social impact, sustainability and community investment teams, corporate foundations and funders.
Impact story strategy
Find the one story that runs through your programme, and shape it for your board, your impact or ESG report and the public.
Partner-centred storytelling
Tell your charity partnerships in a way your partners are proud of, with their voice leading and your brand in its rightful place.
Ethical storytelling review
A review of how you gather, use and reuse other people’s stories, with clear consent, dignity and safeguarding steps your team can follow.
Storytelling support for your grantees
For foundations and funders. Support for the organisations you fund, so their stories get stronger and so does your own impact reporting.
Ongoing advisory
A regular sounding board for whoever owns the story, across the year, as programmes and deadlines move.

How it works
How a consultancy project works
1
A 15-minute call
Tell me what you’re trying to show, and to whom. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
2
Discovery
I talk to the people closest to the work, read what you already have, and find the story in it.
3
A written proposal
Scope, timings and a clear fee, agreed before anything starts.
4
Delivery and handover
You and I build it together, and your team keeps what it needs to carry on without me.
06
Ways to work together
Three ways to work together

Photography
Need the photographs too?
I’m also a documentary photographer. If your programme needs images, I can photograph it with the same care, so the words and the pictures tell the same story.

Who you’ll work with
I’ve sat on both sides of the funding conversation.
I founded the Naz and Matt Foundation in 2014 and have led it for more than 12 years. I know what a charity partner needs from a corporate partnership, and what a CSR lead needs to show the board. I’m also a documentary photographer and trainer, so the strategy comes with the craft to deliver it.

Questions
Questions teams ask before they book
Who is this for?
How much does it cost?
What do we actually get at the end?
Do you write the stories for us?
Can you work with our charity partners directly?
Do you work outside London?
Can this include photography or training?

The idea
What is social impact storytelling?
Social impact storytelling shows the difference your work makes through the real experiences of the people involved, told with their consent and in a way that leads to action, whether that’s funding, support or change. Your numbers prove scale. The story proves it mattered.
