02

The problem

Being seen is not the same as being funded.

The stories that would win your next grant already exist. They’re in your team’s heads and on their phones. What’s missing is a method, and a team that believes it’s allowed to tell them.

01

Coverage that goes nowhere

You’ve had the press, the awards and the visit from the minister. Then nothing happened.

02

Numbers without people

Hundreds of sessions delivered. Every number true, and not one tells a funder what changed for the person on the other side.

03

A team waiting to feel ready

They’re waiting to feel confident. But confidence only arrives after you’ve done the thing.

West Midlands Police conference, 2019

Matt is one of the most powerful storytellers I have ever heard. He has a level of humility that enables him to achieve a very high degree of emotional connection with his audience.

03

What your team leaves with

Your team leaves with four things.

I rebuild the workshop around your organisation before I arrive. Your services, your audiences, your real stories and the funding problem you actually have. Never a generic deck.

One story above all your services

So funding stops arriving restricted to one project.

Your numbers, rebuilt as people

The same data, told as what changed and for whom.

One story, three audiences

Retold for a major donor, a corporate funder and the press.

Consent that holds

A way to capture stories as they happen, with a consent conversation that still holds in five years.

04

Why it’s hard

Why your team isn’t doing this already.

Three fears turn up in every room. So a large part of the day is permission, given out loud, with you in the room. That’s the part no template can do.

Not knowing what to say

Not knowing if they’re allowed to say it

What appears in the comments afterwards

How it works

How a social impact storytelling workshop works

1

A 15-minute call

Tell me what you’re trying to fund, who you need to reach and what your team is stuck on.

2

Free one-hour consultation

Before the workshop, I meet your key stakeholders for a free one-hour consultation, to understand the real challenges in your organisation. Then I send a written proposal and adapt the workshop content to fit.

3

The workshop

Three hours with your team, online or in person. Best with ten to twenty people.

4

Follow-up

A second session two months later, so it becomes a habit rather than a good day. Plus thirty days of email support.

06

Ways to work together

Standard

Photography

Need the photographs too?

I’m also a documentary photographer. If your stories need images, I can photograph your work with the same care, so the words and the pictures tell the same story.

Who runs it

I’ve sat on both sides of the funding conversation.

I founded the Naz and Matt Foundation after the tragic death of my fiancé, Naz, and have led it for more than 12 years, using the methods I teach. You’re not hiring an agency that will learn the sector on your budget.

90+ talks and workshops for charities, NGOs and government departments

Delivered for PACT, Camden Giving, ACEVO, AoEC, NASUWT, Development Guarantee Group and EDT

Awarded the IKWRO True Honour Award for transformative advocacy and storytelling

Work covered by more than 200 media outlets, including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky News and The Guardian

He has really inspired excitement and confidence amongst my colleagues to tell their stories in a way that meets their own goals and the goals of Camden Giving.

Questions

Questions teams ask before they book

Who is it for?

Can you deliver it online?

Do you run workshops for CSR and corporate teams?

Our service users are too vulnerable to be advocates. Does this still work?

We already make good content and nobody sees it.

How far ahead do you book?

What’s the difference between a workshop and the Collective?

About

Social impact storytelling workshops in London and online.

For charities and social impact teams

I run social impact storytelling workshops and training for charities, foundations, CSR teams and purpose-driven organisations, in London and online. Each one is rebuilt around your organisation, so your team leaves with stories they can use in funding bids, impact reports, appeals and on social media.

Built on lived experience

I founded a charity and have run it for more than 12 years, so the workshop is practical, not theoretical. Every method I teach is one I’ve used to raise funding and change minds.

No pitch. If a workshop isn’t the right answer, I’ll tell you.
